In Loving Memory of
Worren Stewart
28 May 1960 – 5 January 2025
We lovingly remember the life of Worren "Gart" Stewart, a man of boundless energy and remarkable talent. Gart was born on May 28, 1960, in the lush hills of Malvern, St Elizabeth, and left this world too soon on January 5, 2025, following an unexpected accident in Esher, St Mary. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, yet his spirit remains a beacon of joy and ingenuity.
The ABC Law – A Principle for Life
From a young age, Gart was gifted a powerful lesson in life—the ABC Law: Avoid Bad Company. His youngest brother, Vincent, vividly recalls this defining moment, as he was present when an elder lady imparted this wisdom to Gart. Vincent not only witnessed his brother wholeheartedly embrace this principle but also saw him live by it with unwavering commitment, allowing it to shape his life and decisions. Gart’s adherence to this philosophy kept him grounded, steadfast in his values, and far from wrongdoing. His life became a testament to the power of wise guidance, discipline, and integrity.
Today, this legacy lives on, as Vincent’s own sons now carry forward the ABC Law, instilling in them the same principles that guided their uncle’s honorable life.
Gart was a cherished son, a brother among eight siblings – Irvin, Calvin, Rohan, Vincent, Barbara, Trudy, Claudia, and Joan – and a devoted father to his beloved children Andre, Nickoy, Kemoy, Nemoy, Mickayla, and Layla. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his love for them was evident in his every action.
An accomplished auto mechanic, Gart honed his craft at the St Elizabeth Technical High School before furthering his expertise in Cobblers, Manchester. His passion for automobiles was not just a career but a way of life. Gart was renowned for his skill with Land Rovers, and his ability to start a car engine on the ground during an overhaul was legendary. His family fondly recalls how they played dominoes by the light of that engine, a testament to his skill and creativity.
Gart's interests were as varied as they were passionate. From his lifelong dedication to mechanics to his love for the beach and cinema, he embraced life with zeal. He had fond memories of watching triple bills from 10:00 in the morning until 3:00 PM, a golden age of cinema in Jamaica, especially at theatres on Half Way Tree Road in Kingston. As a farmer, he cultivated red peas in St Elizabeth and yams, bananas, and plantains in St Mary, proving his versatility and connection to the land.
A jack of all trades, Gart could fix almost anything. His family knew that if Gart couldn't fix it, it was time to throw it away. His expertise extended to fans, televisions, radios, computers, and much more. Gart was also an excellent chauffeur, offering his driving services to those who needed to travel. His love for automobiles began in childhood, building and racing carts from the hills of Malvern to the plains of Santa Cruz, a testament to his adventurous spirit.
Gart's love for music was evident in his ability to play the piano, a skill that brought joy to many. He was also a fierce competitor in games of dominoes and draughts, where his strategic mind and playful nature shone through. His hands were skilled, and his heart was full; Gart was the embodiment of being handy, loving, and selfless.
To quote the great Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Gart's legacy is one of love, resilience, and an innate ability to bring warmth and light into the lives of others, just as he did with the engines he so skillfully brought to life.
As we say goodbye to Gart, we are reminded of his impact on the world and the indelible mark he has left on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of passion, the importance of family, and the joy of a life well-lived. Gart Stewart will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and comfort us for years to come.
