28 July 1923 – 10 December 2024
Agatha “Zoey” Boothe, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 9th, 2024, at the venerable age of 101. Born on July 28, 1923, in Dumpling, St. Catherine, Zoey lived a life rich in experiences, love, and dedication to her family and community. Her passing in Top Halse Hall District marks the end of a remarkable era, yet her legacy will continue to thrive through her family and everyone she touched.
Zoey’s early years in Dumpling were filled with the vibrant culture and strong community bonds that would come to define her character. She grew up to be a woman of immense kindness and generosity, traits that she would carry into all aspects of her life. Her professional journey was as diverse as it was impactful, with her career spanning various roles. She brought her nurturing spirit to Haughley Grace, imparted knowledge and care at Halse Basic School, and worked tirelessly in the Cane Fields, where her strength and resilience shone. Zoey’s dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family and community.
Family was the cornerstone of Zoey’s world. She was the cherished mother of Fitzroy Nelson and Collin Thompson, who stood as testaments to her loving and kind nature. Her family circle expanded to include her cousin Aunt Nellie, numerous nieces and nephews, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, all of whom basked in the warmth of her affection and care. Zoey’s presence was a source of comfort and joy to her family, and her absence will be deeply felt by each member.
Zoey’s interests were a reflection of the simple joys she found in life. She had a passion for Gungo picking, an activity that allowed her to connect with the earth and her community. Her laughter and stories would fill the air as she engaged in this pastime, creating memories that would be cherished by all who accompanied her. Playing with her grandchildren was another source of happiness for Zoey, a time when she could share her love and wisdom with the younger generation, creating a bond that would endure beyond her years.
Her involvement in the community extended beyond her professional roles. Zoey was a pillar of strength and support, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. With every act of kindness, she wove herself into the fabric of her community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those around her.
Agatha “Zoey” Boothe was the embodiment of love, kindness, and generosity. Her life was a testament to the beauty of giving and the strength of the human spirit. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary woman, we take solace in knowing that her legacy will live on through the lives she has touched. Zoey’s memory will be treasured, her stories recounted, and her love felt, as she continues to watch over us all with the same tenderness and affection she showed in life.
