In Loving Memory of

Egbert Irons

4 May 1949 – 7 September 2024

Mr. Egbert George Irons, known affectionately as Birty to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the 7th of September, 2024, in Trinity Port Maria, St. Mary. Born on May 4th, 1949, in Woodside, St. Mary, Birty lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and community spirit.

Birty grew up in the lush surroundings of Woodside, where he attended primary school and developed a strong foundation that would support his many talents. As a young man, he learned the trades of carpentry and masonry, skills that would not only become his livelihood but also a way for him to contribute to the growth and development of his hometown. Birty was also a dedicated farmer, known for his bountiful harvests and his willingness to share his knowledge and produce with his neighbors.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Birty was a man of many interests. He had a passion for riding, whether it was horses or bicycles, and he was often seen enjoying the beauty of St. Mary from the saddle. An avid socializer, Birty was a familiar face at community gatherings, where his warm smile and hearty laughter were as much a part of the festivities as the music and food.

Birty's character was best described by those who knew him as loving, handy, and kind. His hands, skilled in his trade, were equally adept at expressing his affection through his actions. Whether it was building a piece of furniture for a family member or repairing a neighbor's fence, Birty's kindness was always on display.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Annette, who has been left to cherish his memory along with his daughter Andrea Irons, his sister Linora, and his brothers Wellesley and Stanley. Birty's love and wisdom will also live on in his adored grandchild, Zhuri, whom he loved with all his heart.

Birty's life was one of connection – to his land, his craft, and his community. His passing is a profound loss to all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family and friends. Birty's spirit, embodied in the homes he built, the crops he cultivated, and the countless lives he touched, will continue to inspire and comfort those he left behind.

As we say goodbye to Mr. Egbert George Irons, we reflect on a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will endure. Birty's journey may have come to a peaceful end, but the stories of his kindness, his laughter, and his love will be recounted for generations to come. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a pillar of his community, a craftsman of the highest order, and a man who truly made the world a better place.
